Originally, filmmakers used stop motion animation with miniature models to create special effects. With today’s technology, any visual effect can be created with computer generated imagery (CGI), leaving the viewer to believe that some of the incredible locations, animals, and fight scenes are real. These images will give you an inside look at famous scenes created before and after the use of visual effects. You will be very surprised!

Game Of Thrones

For all the GoT fans out there, we hate to break it to you but, Khaleesi’s dragons are not real! Somehow she still looks good with that green lump on a stick.

Boardwalk Empire

What a view! It’s hard to believe none of that is real. Consider this next time you re-watch the show.

The Life Of Pi

So not only are the dragons from Game of Thrones not real, but neither is the beautiful tiger, Richard Parker, from “The Life Of Pi”! For safety reasons, perhaps the blue stuffed animal is a better choice.

Oz The Great And Powerful

Looks a little less frightening now, doesn’t it? The wonderful land of Oz is actually a wonderful land of CGI! Or in reality, the wonderful room of blue cushions.

The Wolf Of Wall Street

We were blown away with luxurious life of Jordan Belfort in this film. It won’t be easy to watch this again with the same appreciation.

300

Well that’s one way to fill up space! Now that we’ve seen this, it doesn’t look like much of a battle film before all the computer touch ups.

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby? Or The Great Green Screen? So much for the city that never sleeps!

The Maze Runner

It could be overwhelming watching “The Maze Runner” from the sight of the huge walls coming every which way, putting the lives of the guys in there in danger. No need to worry the next time you watch it!

Mad Max

For the film that won so many Academy Awards, it’s surprising it didn’t win for it’s amazing visual effects. It doesn’t look nearly as exciting without all the fire and explosions!

Gravity

The entire time we watched “Gravity” at the edge of our sit wondering if Sandra Bullock was going to make it back alive, she was actually lost in a big white room? It’s amazing these actors can even get into such character.

District 9

Wait a second, the aliens weren’t real?! We had our assumptions about this but we never considered it was actually a man in silver spandex also wearing what looks like stilts!

Twilight: Breaking Dawn

Seems the luxurious honeymoon suit for Bella and Edward wasn’t quite as spectacular as it may have seemed. No beach patio. No ocean front view. No glistening moonlight pouring in. Girls everywhere just cried a little.

Game Of Thrones Again

It appears The Great Wall isn’t so great after all. We’re still impressed with the actors climbing skills, it’s just not as impressive being so close to the ground. Are they even climbing? Maybe they’re just crawling. Hard to tell what is really going on between the green screens and fake snow.

Alice In Wonderland

It is really unfortunate that the beautiful landscape in “Alice In Wonderland” isn’t real. It is not nearly as enchanting as the movie appears to be. They really took us down the rabbit hole for this one!

Deadly Honeymoon

What is the point in even searching for extraordinary shooting locations when all anyone really needs is a green screen and a computer? Even those relaxing chairs in the background look a little digital in this one.

Iron Man

At least Robert Downey Jr. looks good in any suit he wears, iron or polka dot spandex. However, he doesn’t look quite as tough perhaps.

The Dark Knight

To think we turned away from the screen watching this when all along it was computer generated trickery. It’s amazing what technology can do these days!
